Opere pie e luoghi pii nello Stato sabaudo fra XVII e XVIII secolo. Appunti e materiali per una ricerca

This research analyzes the territorial diffusion and the administrative structure of the so-called Opere pie and Luoghi pii in the Savoy Piedmont, between XVIIth and XVIIIth century: the key question, in fact, is their role in the politics of devotions in the baroque age. Above all, the Opere pie under royal patronage and public jurisdiction, yet administrated by clerics, and the institutions of «terziarie», dedicated to charitable activities, are studied in depth, their juridical status being utterly controversial. The ultimate aim of the research, therefore, is to propose a reflexion about the history of the charitable system in the State of Savoy, underlining the significance and the extent of the reforms inspired by Victor Amadeus II.
